Le Papillon
Hi folks,
we are just wrapping up things - we are just about done all of the academic stuff! Things are quickly moving to a close. One more week and school will be out for the summer!
Social Studies - The students are done reading "Medieval Times". This week, we will review Le Canada and Medieval Times.
Science - Grade 4 students have completed all science strands. Last week, the Grade 3students invited a Scientist in the School to talk about "Forces". They have also completed the "Plant" strand. We would like you to know that our experimental herb and vegetable garden is starting to take form. Little green leafs are starting to grow out of the ground! How exciting! This week, we will start the final strand called "Structures".
Excursions - Excursions to Black Creek Pioneer Village and Medieval Times are done. This Wednesday, June 22th, we are visiting "Le Papillon". This will be our final excursion! Many parents have volunteered for the joyous event!

EQAO is done...
Hi folks,
EQAO is finally done! At a cursory glance, the results look promising. The clicker may have had something to do with it! Congratulations class!
Social Studies - the focus is on "Medieval Times". Students should be done reading the book by next Monday.
Science - Grade 4 students have completed all strands. For grade 3, we are currently doing "Plants". We hope to start the next strand "Structures" at the end of the week. We will be conducting experiments nearly every day until the end of the year! This week, we were able to make last minute changes and were able to invite a Scientist in the School on Tuesday to cover "Forces". That was a lot of fun and yes, it was all in french!
Excursions - On June 14th, the Grades 3 are going to Black Creek Pioneer Village and the Grades 4 are going to Medieval Times. Money and forms should all have been remitted! Also, please note that "Le Papillon" is on June 22th. This will be our final excursion! All monies should be collected by the end of this week.

Upcoming Events
Hi folks,
the clickers and the digital classroom are finally up and running! Also,
the five Kobo readers are also fully functional in French and in English.
Isn't that amazing?
Please make note of up and coming events. Tomorrow we are going to the Ontario Science Centre. Also, our last Scientist-in-the-School (Grade 4) - Pulleys and Gears - is on May 13th. Please see the calendar for more information.
Although there is still a lot of time, the end of the school is soon approaching. There are many excursions planned for this time of year: Medieval Times and Pioneer Village are only a few of the upcoming events... Stay tuned, we will keep you posted! Again, please check the calendar!
Clairlea Idol has been postponed to a later date, some time after the Spring Concert is over so not to conflict with this very important school event.
Keep posted,
Mr. Landry
P.S. The EQAO Math Test will be held the last week of May and the first week of June!

Keeping on top of things!
WoW! In our last communique, we spoke about the digital classroom. I am glad to inform all that the "clickers" will be up and running by the end of the day this Tuesday, April 12th.
Incidentally, just a short reminder that the EQAO presentation is not on Thursday but rather on Wednesday of this week. We hope to show the clickers to all those parents who are present that evening. It is an amazing tool and I am very happy to have it available for our students in preparation for the EQAO tests. It makes things a lot more fun!
A brief reminder that we are going to the Ontario Science Centre on the 27th. Forms have all already been signed, students must now bring $15.00 + return bus fair by end of this week, if possible. All students from grade 2 to 6 (French Immersion) will be spending the day at the Science Centre. Each grade has scheduled two science courses relating specifically to the curriculum for that grade. We are still waiting from Scientist in the School for our last presentation of "Pulleys and Gears".
Regrettably, our class will not be participating in the Spring Concert this year due to a number of reasons, one of which being Clairlea Idol. As you may or may not know, I am the organizer of the Clairlea Idol and we are commencing auditions within the next week. Last year, we had more than 80 participants. This year we are expecting even more! For more information, please refer to the video on this Blog!
Please mark these events in your calendar:
April 12th(morning), Film Viewing for Grade 3
April 13th(evening), EQAO Parent Presentation
April 22 and 25, Good Friday and Easter Monday
April 27, Ontario Science Centre for Grade 3 and 4
Mr. Landry
P.S. I have been told to remind parents that children cannot be dismissed from the bus unless there is an official note from the parents. Please make sure you write a brief message in the Agenda if you need your child to leave early or if your child will not be taking the bus.

Things are moving quickly....
Yes, we are officially a digital classroom now! Imagine that! Took a long time, but we managed to work through it!
Here is a short recap on where we are and where we are heading. First, we have been involved in many different things this year - some are now completed and some are soon coming to an end.
As of February, we are no longer doing Reading Buddies with the grades 1 and 2. They no longer seemed to require our help! Good job folks!
With regards to Roots of Empathy, next week is the last week we will be blessed by the visit of baby Madeleine.
Next week is also the last week our nurse in training will be working with the students of our class. Indicidentally, we will have covered the entire health program for the year!
I would like to inform all that we now have a teacher in training in my class as of last week. She will be with us for the remainder of the year and she will assist me with the teaching of French, Math and Science.
With regards to Science, we have covered three of the four Grade 4 strands. This week, we will revive "Soil and Minerals" and complete it sometime next week. We will then continue with the other three Grade 3 strands.
With regards to Math, we are currently doing a review of all 14 chapters. Chapter 1 went home last Friday. We intend to finish it this Thursday and begin Chapter 2, immediately after. The completed work will be sent home for you to follow your child's progression as we prepare for EQAO. Don't forget that on April 14th, there will be an informational session for parents!
At this point, the homework page should be fully functional. Please make sure you visit it now and again just to keep tabs on what is up with homework. It might answer a lot of unanswered questions!
Finally, here is a list of upcoming events. Make sure to mark them in your calendar so you don't forget them:

April 14th(evening), EQAO Parent Presentation

Welcome Back!
We are now back from the March Break and getting back into the routine is somewhat difficult! The winter months have been long! But not to worry, exciting things are coming which will reinject life back into the classroom.
As you know, our class blog has been a work in progress! I am glad to inform you that the "newsletter" and "activity" icons and sites are now available for your viewing!
Also, we are now transitioning towards a digital classroom. In the classroom, we now have a digital document reader, a digital projector and an interactive board which when combined create the same effect as the well known and more expensive "smart board".
I should also add that we are also waiting for our latest and newest acquisition, the most famous and renowned "clicker" which allows teachers and students to interact using individual remote controls.
We intend to have all systems running by the end of this month. We will keep you posted on any new developments. Stay tuned, you won't want to miss the exciting news!
Incidentally, if you are wondering about those famous Kobo readers... I would like to inform all that obtaining french books has been a far greater challenge than ever expected. Luckily, just recently, a parent has provided a viable and inexpensive alternative! Thank you parents for coming to our rescue!
We are now currently investigating potential e-books! Not to worry, we will keep you posted on any new development.
